FAIR DONATES 12,996 POUNDS OF FOOD TO 2ND HARVEST
KENNEWICK – The Benton Franklin Fair is proud to donate $2,166 to 2nd Harvest Tri-Cities to help fight hunger and feed hope in our community.
The fair donated $2 for each adult admission ticket sold on opening day before 2 p.m. An additional $396 was raised during the People’s Choice vote at the BBQ Cook-Off at the fair on August 27.
“Farmers feed the world and as an agricultural -organization, making sure our community has enough to eat is a priority,” said Brian Goulet, fair board president. “Through our partnership with PayneWest Insurance, we are able to provide 8,830 meals for hungry children, families and seniors in the Mid-Columbia through Second Harvest. That’s something we’re very proud of.”
The donation is the equivalent of 12,996 pounds of food and is the second largest contribution the fair has made to 2nd Harvest in the nine-year history of the program.
“The Benton Franklin Fair and Rodeo has helped Second Harvest source nearly 80,000 pounds of donated fresh produce and food,” said Holly Siler, regional executive director for Second Harvest. “This kind of support is essential during a time when food insecurity impacts one-in-four children in our community.”
