Watch the women's roping competition Tuesday & Wednesday nights during the rodeo.
Breakaway roping is a variation of calf roping where a calf is roped, but not thrown and tied. It is the only other all women's event, besides the barrel racing. It is a very fast-paced event in which the roper gives the calf a head start, then ropes the calf. After roping the calf, she stops her horse, the rope breaks away from the saddle horn and the calf runs free down the arena.
