The Board of Directors is responsible for setting policies and overseeing a multi-million dollar budget that provides for the production of the largest event in the region, the Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo, held annually each August. The Benton Franklin Fair Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
The board governs on behalf of the community and the youth it serves, and includes fulfilling the mission of the organization, determining its future direction, and assuring its fiscal health. Board positions are volunteer and uncompensated.
Directors are expected to spend portions of at least 40 days per year on business. Regular board meetings are held in the evenings of the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Additional meetings are held as the fair approaches. Work days and special events are also held throughout the year. Directors are expected to be available the last two weeks of August each year. This includes prep for the Fair during the prior week, the week of the actual Fair, cleanup and closeout after the Fair. A full calendar will be provided upon appointment to the board. Continuing education of the fair industry is also an important component, with some expenses provided for participation in both state and national conventions.
Board candidates must have a strong commitment to the Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo’s mission, and understand its importance to the community. There is an expectation that Board members have resources available to assist with their Director duties. Board members must sign and comply with the Code of Conduct. The selected Board candidate will perform his/her first year on probation during which you may be removed from your appointed post without given any notice or reason. Final approval will be at the end of that one year period by the current board members.
