With all that’s going on in the world we can’t have a Fair this year. What we can do is uphold our commitment to the kids who have purchased livestock in hopes of being able to show and sell them. As you know, this auction would normally take place during the Benton Franklin Fair and be the culmination of a year-long project for many young people in our community. More than 350 young members of our community have stayed the course to see their animals to market this August. We’ll hold a youth livestock auction on August 28 at the fairgrounds. You can send an animal to be custom processed locally or “turn it.” This means the animal goes to a commercial processor, who underwrites the “floor” or market price of the animal, and you pay the difference of your final bid per pound.
How you can help:
- Register to be a buyer in advance and purchase on sale day, either on site or via proxy bidder.
- If you don’t want to purchase an animal but want to add some extra dollars to a specific child’s earnings from the sale, choose this option. You’ll donate a flat amount to a specific child or children.
- If you want to help out the youth exhibitors in general, choose the Booster Fund Option below. Your donation will be pooled and used to raise up the prices of the lower selling animals.
